Tietgen Student Hall by Bole Lundgaard & Lene Tranberg (2004)
I had visited this project before but this time got to see the interior of the building from teh point of view of an occupant, a student who graciously showed us around. Apart from being a timber circle, the building also has a great organisation: flats on the outside, communal spaces on the interior onto the courtyard, articulating it vertically. It made me feel jealous: I never had all that stuff when I was a student. It had a workshop, a rehearsal studio, a bookable bar, etc.. etc.. Groups of rooms share a kitchen lounge and apparently students can see whats happening in the other common rooms and rove between parties. Overall the project had lovely detail and organic finishes that gave it a very un-flat feel.
